DIY Floral Bough and Cake Topper
Bright colors, airy cakes, and blooming backdrops… there’s nothing quite like summer entertaining. It can always be a scramble to come up with decor for these small gatherings, like bridal brunches and showers, so we partnered with Aforal to create these easy floral arrangements that you can keep after the party is over.
For this project you’ll need:
- Peony
- Garden rose
- Rose
- Kangaroo paw
- Cherry blossom branch
- Forsythia branch
- Dahlia
- Wild berry
- Clematis
- Ranunculus
- Cosmos
- Ribbon
- Florist wire
- Wire cutter
How to make a Floral Bough:
Measure out your ribbon, cutting a little bit longer than how you want it to hang, and afix each end to your branch by tying simple knots.
Weave your first bundle of flowers together with floral wire one-by-one, around a branch. Place each small bundle in opposite directions, then fill the center and ends with more lose faux flowers and floral branches. For the more stubborn bits that may not stay up, use a dab a hot glue to secure them in place.
How to make a mini wreath cake topper:
Create a whimsical cake topper by cutting one smaller forsythia branch. With a single branch, make a loop to make a small circle. Secure each segment with fishing line and use a small piece of wire on one end of to create the peg that you will insert into the cake. You can use loose flowers from the leftover branch to fill the wreath a bit more with the help of hot glue.
Use these quick + easy designs for bridal showers, engagement parties, then use your floral wreath for your front door or wall for the season. We’re in love with how we can save these for future parties or reuse them throughout the house, so stay tuned for our next projects using Afloral’s faux flowers!
