Cedar Canyon Lodge & Stables Cafe & Cantina was originally constructed in 2000 by partners Anita Waggoner and Marvin Nixon.
The intent of the partners was to provide a "dude" ranch atmosphere for city-slickers who might visit the ranch from time to time.
The original partners met in 1996 in Las Vegas at the NFR. They had similar interests in raising rodeo bulls and soon became partners in Rocking A Rodeo Company. The rodeo arena was built first to train the rodeo bulls and, soon thereafter came the idea to build a lodge and cafe to house and feed the people who would be stopping by to watch the bulls buck.
The land was originally owned by Marvin's parents Cecil and Aileen Nixon, and at one time Marvin's mother, Aileen Nixon had owned and operated a cafe and horse stables on the property. It seemed a natural to the partners that they repeat her efforts - and thus the creation of Cedar Canyon Lodge & Stables Cafe & Cantina.
The name for the business came easy as locals had always known the area to be called Cedar Canyon and since the cafe was built on the same piece of property where the old horse stables had sat - "Stables Cafe" was the likely name for the restaurant.
